9:30 am Whale Watch & Dolphin Sightings:

Common Dolphins

Our summer whaler docent orientation cruise was a sunny excursion out of the harbor. We were able to see some Common Dolphins on our excursion and had good visibility for the trip.

9:30 am Whale Watch & Dolphin Sightings:

250 Common Dolphins
2 Humpback Whales
1 Mola Mola

Guests experienced numerous sightings of marine life with calm seas and sunny skies. A pod of Common Dolphins was found early in the cruise providing excitement with bow riding and jumps. A large Mola Mola swam along the side of the boat as we continued our trip. Our first Humpback Whale was encountered close to the Mexican Border, feeding among birds and Common Dolphins. Our second Humpback was found seven miles off Point Loma and was very active. We were able to spend time observing its behavior as it fluked numerous times, swam close to the boat, and breached twice giving guests an amazing experience.

Glenda

9:30 am Whale Watch & Dolphin Sightings:

Common Dolphins
Humpback Whales

Really calm on the water, with the sun coming out gradually throughout the morning. Three different humpbacks were spotted pretty early on, and one stayed very close to the boat, doing several shallow breaths before going deeper, giving us great views of its fluke. The pattern was repeated for at least an hour or so. The big excitement was seeing the whale breach twice! A few Common dolphin swam by after that, but didn’t stay for long.

Your naturalist,

Caren, Aimee
